COURSE DESCRIPTION: The Diesel Technician 101 course offers technicians early in their careers a comprehensive overview of heavy-duty truck systems and industry and safety standards. Technicians will gain a basic understanding of the operations, maintenance, and safety measures of various makes/models truck systems including engine, aftertreatment, transmission, drive axle, brakes/ABS, basic electrical and diagnostic software functions. Additionally, this class offers insight into what makes a technician successful in today’s shop environment. Hotel & Lunch are included.

COURSE INCLUDES

  • Safety overview
  • The 3 C’s and the fundamentals of writing an effective job story
  • Diesel engine ID & history
  • Understanding the evolution of EGR and Aftertreatment
  • Understanding the operation and components of coolant, lubrication and fuel systems
  • Aftertreatment overview – Understanding exhaust flow and components
  • Drive axle overview – Identification of drive axle models and maintenance
  • Transmission overview – Identification of models, operations of components, and maintenance
  • Clutch adjustment
  • Driveline overview – Identification of models and maintenance
  • Overview of air systems – operation of components
  • Brakes and ABS overview – theory and operation
  • 5th Wheel overview – Identification, maintenance and adjustment
  • Basic electrical overview – Circuit troubleshooting, battery testing, starter testing, how to use a DVOM and LoadPro

  • 25-question test
  • Hands-on skills evaluation
  • Certificate of Completion awarded at the end of class

LOCATION: ETT Training Center

TRITECH Expert Technician Training Center is in New Braunfels, TX, while the San Antonio, TX airport (SAT) is 35.5 miles from training center and the Austin, TX airport (AUS) is 47 miles from ETT training center. Please plan on arriving the Monday prior to class starting on Tuesday and departing Fridays 3:00pm or after.

What to do while in town?

New Braunfels is Centrally located between Austin and San Antonio and is best known for the Comal and Guadalupe Rivers, great food, live music and the nearby Gruene Historic District.

Technicians must bring appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), safety shoes, eye protection and ear protection. All safety procedures and warnings must be followed. High pressure fuel and temperature warning. Exposure to rotating components. Always watch out for each other and if see any liquid spills, please clean up immediately.
